Our IT team has been hard at working to make remote work easier and more functional since the beginning of COVID. The directions for how to connect and the functionality of when you’re connected are different for the two types of connections.

New VPN
This uses the smph.vpn.wisc.edu server.
Allows the following:
VPN Connection with dynamic IP
Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) access to your work computer
Access to Ophthalmology network drives directly on the laptop
Access to HelthLink (via RDP)
Access to Ophthalmology web applications
Box and Google Drive for file sharing
Must be used on a DOVS provided laptop
Old VPN
This uses the uwmadison.vpn.wisc.edu server.
Allows the following:
VPN connection with static IP address
Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) access to your work computer
Access to Ophthalmology network drives (via RDP)
Access to HelthLink (via RDP)
Access to Ophthalmology web applications
Box and Google Drive for file sharing
Can be used from any computer with Global Protect installed
