Comprehensive Analysis of Pathogens, Resistomes, and Inflammatory- markers in the Cornea

Study Objective:
To identify pathogens causing infectious keratitis in an unbiased manner with metagenomic deep sequencing (MDS) and determine optimal diagnostic technique for corneal ulcers.
Study Design:
Patients will provide a corneal/conjunctival sample that will be sent for molecular analysis. Patients will have one follow-up visit 4 weeks after sample collection.
Inclusion Criteria:
- Presence of corneal ulcer: defined as corneal epithelial defect with underlying corneal infiltrate and signs of acute inflammation
- All ages excluding neonates (˂1-month-old)
Exclusion Criteria:
- Corneal perforation
- Inability to give consent
